Biography
Raised in Wales, Sian studied at Gwynedd Technical College, Nottingham Trent University, and Bangor University. At GTC she was fortunate to study under the renowned Welsh painter Peter Prendergast, and during a Fine Art degree course at Bangor she was taught by inspiring tutors including Noel McCready and Andrew Smith.
Alongside her lifelong passion for the arts, Sian has built a successful career in business & hospitality, which led to her appointment as an advisor for Arts & Business Cymru. She has twice been a finalist for the prestigious Arts & Business Advisor of the Year Award.
In 2006 Sian was a part of the team who launched the Helfa Gelf concept which became Wales' biggest Open Art Studio event, celebrating over 300 artists.
In 2013 Sian returned to study and undertook a Fine Art course at Bangor University and her passion for painting was reignited.
In 2024, Sian co-organised a celebrated art competition with fellow artist Debbie Baxter, sparking the revival of the historic Betws-y-Coed Artists’ Group. Immersed once again in a vibrant community of practicing artists, it felt the right moment for her to begin exhibiting her own work again.
Sian has lived in Fife, Scotland, and the Pyrenees in the south of France, and now back in Wales makes her home by the sea on the edge of the Llŷn Peninsula. Always surrounded by mountains and water, she works in several styles and mediums, but nature and the shifting moods of the elements remain constant themes in her work.
“I remember coming across the concept of ‘the finders and the seekers’ years ago. Many artists are finders – they discover a style they love and explore it deeply. But I’ve always been a seeker, the idea of painting only one subject, in one style, doesn’t keep me engaged long term. Subjects change depending on my surroundings and experimentation in alternative mediums drives me to explore those subjects in different ways.”
Sian’s work reflects this spirit of exploration: diverse in approach, yet united by her deep connection to landscape, weather, and colour.
